VIDEO+ does not collect, transmit, store, or sell any personal data. There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind. This page explains what the extension actually does, in plain terms.

What the extension reads

To work out what colours to display, VIDEO+ reads pixels from the video on the page you are already watching. This happens entirely inside your own browser, on your own device. Those pixels are used to compute an average colour and are then discarded. They are never uploaded, saved to disk, or sent anywhere.

What is stored

Your settings — which effects are on, the strength of each one, and any per-site profiles you create — are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's extension storage. They stay on your machine. If you sign into Chrome with sync enabled, Chrome itself may sync that data between your own devices, under Google's terms rather than mine; I never see it either way.

Network connections

In normal use, VIDEO+ makes no network requests whatsoever. There is exactly one exception:

• If you buy Pro and enter a licence key, the extension contacts api.gumroad.com once to check that the key corresponds to a real, unrefunded purchase. Only the licence key and the product identifier are sent. No personal information about you is transmitted, and the permission to reach that address is optional — Chrome asks you for it at the moment you enter a key, and never before.

Purchases themselves are handled entirely by Gumroad, who process the payment and hold any billing details. Gumroad's own privacy policy governs that transaction. I receive no card details at any point.

Permissions, and why each one exists

• Storage — to remember your settings between sessions. Nothing else.
• Access to specific video sites — the extension runs only on the list of video sites it supports, so that it can see the video player and draw the effect around it. It requests no access to any other site you visit.
• api.gumroad.com (optional) — requested only if you choose to enter a Pro licence key, as described above.

DRM-protected video

VIDEO+ cannot read DRM-protected video such as Netflix, Disney+ or Prime Video, and does not attempt to. That content is rendered in a protected path that browsers deliberately place out of reach of extensions.

Children

VIDEO+ is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated date at the top of this page will change with it. If a future version of the extension were ever to collect data — which is not planned — that change would be described here before it shipped.
